NEW MATERIAL:A p-(trans-5-alkyl 1,3-dioxane-2-yl)phenyl p-halogenobenzoate shown by the formula (R is 1W10C alkyl; X is F, Br, or Cl). n EXAMPLE: p-(5-Butyl-1,3-dioxane-2-yl)phenyl p-fluorobenzoate. n USE: A liquid crystal material for display element. Having positive dielectric anisotropy, a wide range of liquid crystal temperature, high transparent point, improved stability, and excellent practical performance. n PROCESS: Malonic acid diethyl ester is reacted with an alkyl bromide, to give a compound, which is reduced to give a 2-alkyl-1,3-propanediol. While a 4-halogenobenzoic acid is converted into an acid halide, which is reacted with 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde to give a reaction product. This reaction product is reacted with the 2-alkyl-1,3-propanediol, and the prepared reaction product is recrystallized, to give a compound shown by the formula. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio |
