abstract PURPOSE: To prevent fogging due to overdevelopment by etherifying the mercapto group of a heterocyclic mercapto compound with a specified group. n CONSTITUTION: To a silver halide emulsion layer and/or a colloidal layer permeable to water through said emulsion layer is added a thioether compound represented by general formulaI(where A is the heterocyclic group of a mercapto anti-foggant, each of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is H, halogen, alkyl or phenyl, R 1 and R 2 , or R 2 and R 3 may bond to each other to form a benzene ring, and R 4 is H, alkyl or phenyl). The compound is a precursor which is perfectly stable in a neutral or weakly acidic state and releases an active anti-foggant in the presence of alkali for develpment, and it does not cause desensitization during the storage of the resulting sensitive material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
