titleOfInvention Novel tetrahydrofuran derivative and perfumery composition containing the same
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The 2, 2-dimethyl-5-( 3'-acetoxy-1'-methyl-1'-propen )-yl-tetrahydrofuran of formula. n USE: A perfumery composition. It has flavor of hay, and when added to a compounded perfumery composed mainly of linalool or linalool acetate, the scent of the perfumery approaches remarkably to the natural one, and the compound exhibits excellent effect in the preparation of synthetic essential oil such as lavender, lavandine, bergamot, geranium, etc. n PROCESS: The compound of formula can be prepared by (1) reacting ocimenol with an organic peracid such as peracetic acid, metachloroperbenzoic acid, etc., (2) reacting the resultant 2,2-dimethy1-5-(1'-hydroxy-1'-methyl-2'-propen)-yl-tetrahydrofuran with phosphorus tribromide, and (3) reacting the reaction product with potassium acetate. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
