abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a high water content porous gel having rubber like elasticity and excellent mechanical strength by a method wherein an aqueous solution of a specified polyorvnyl alcohol is frozen and, after molding, dried under vacuum. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol of which the saponification value is 95% or more and the viscosity average polymerization degree is 1,500 or more is poured in a container with an optional shape or a casting mold and frozen at -6°C or less to be molded. After molding, when the molded object is dried under vacuum without melting the same, the high water content gel containing 20W90wt% water is obtained. Thus obtained gel is porous and high in water content and has rubber like elasticity and excellent mechanical strength as well as is inexpensive. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
