abstract PURPOSE:To improve the whiteness of the base of a thermosensitive color-forming layer and the clearness of a colored image, by incorporating a specified fluoran compound into the layer. CONSTITUTION:A specified fluoran compound represented by the formula is used as a color forming substance for a thermosensitive recording material composed of a thermosensitive color-forming layer provided on a substrate. Ordinarily the color-forming substance together with a color developing substance, a binder, a filler and other additives, alone or as a mixture of them excluding the color-forming substance, as well as a protective colloid such as polyvinyl alcohol, a surface active agent and the like are added to an aqueous medium and then dispersed by a dispersing machine such as a ball mill, an attritor or a sand mill. The prepared dispersion is coated on a substrate and dried to obtain a thermosensitive material, which offers excellent base density with a whiter color, a clear colored image and excellent traceability on a thermal head.
