abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the clogging of a vent plug due to a foamable composition and maintain a venting capability by a method wherein a vent plug is formed of a porous body of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with a non-fibril construction having a specified apparent specific gravity and a specified air permeation resistance. CONSTITUTION:A porous body of PTFE with the non-fibril construction having a thickness of at least 0.5mm., an apparent specific gravity of 0.8-1.8 and an air permeation resistance of 0.1-2 so as to be free from clogging due to entering of a foamable urethane composition into the pores of the porous body, retain its venting capability, have an appropriate strength and prevent the finished surface of a molded article from being impaired, is produced by compressing a fired powder of PTFE to obtain a preform, followed by free sintering. The vent plug structure of a mold for expansion molding of a urethane resin is obtained by fixing the porous body 11 of PTFE at a position such as to shield the hollow part of a heat-resistant hollow protective pipe 12 provided by a screw means.
