titleOfInvention Preparation of macrocyclic ethylenedioate
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance useful as a musk perfume, in high purity and yield, by carrying out the thermal depolymerization cyclization of a linear polyester obtained by polycondensation while adding ethylene glycol, etc. used as a component of the polyester to the depolymerization system, thereby preventing the viscosity increase of the residual polymer. n CONSTITUTION: The titled compound is prepared by the thermal depolymerization of a linear polyester obtained by the polycondensation of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid of formula (l is 6W14; R is H or lower alkyl) or its ester, e.g. suberic acid, azelaic acid, etc. and ethylene glycol, or the above aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and ethylene oxide. In the above process, ethylene glycol and or an oligoester of the same kind as those used in the depolymerization and having average polymerization degree of 2W20 are added to the depolymerization reaction system at an arbitrary stage of the depolymerization. A known catalyst such as lead nitrate, etc. can be used as the depolymerization catalyst. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
