titleOfInvention Water-resistant grease composition
abstract PURPOSE:To provide grease having improved water resistance, by incorporating a metal phenate into a grease compsn. CONSTITUTION:0.1-10pts.wt. metal phenate is incorporated into a grease compsn. Examples of said metal phenates are compds. of the formula wherein R is an 8-10C alkyl; M is a bivalent metal such as magnesium, calcium or barium. When the metal phenate is present in grease, the micellar structure of grease is remarkably strengthened and is not broken even under circumstances where grease contains water, is kneaded and sheared, and the micellar structure of conventional grease is broken. Thus, the softening and flowing of grease do not occur. Particularly calcium phenate among metal phenates has a remarkably good effect on strengthening the micellar structure of grease. When the amount of the metal phenate to be added is less than 0.1wt%, the metal phenate has no effect. When the amount exceeds 10wt%, a further improvement in performance can not be found and cost is increased.
