abstract PURPOSE: A synthetic substrate, X-hippuryl-L-dipeptide and an oxidizing agent such as periodic acid are used to inexpensively and stably measure the activity of enzymes transforming angiotensin. n CONSTITUTION: A solution containing X-hippuryl-L-dipeptide of formulaIor II (X is hydroxyl, amino or dimethylamine), hippuricase and 4-aminoantipyrine is mixed with another solution containing enzymes transforming angiotensin and an oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of periodic acid, perbromic acid, perchloric acid, potassium ferricyanide, cerium ammonium nitrate, chloramine T, chloramine B and chromic anhydride is added to the resultant mixture.
