abstract | PURPOSE:To provide a stable oxygen electrode for a battery, on which no oxide film is produced even if the electrode is put in contact with the electrolyte for a long time, by using a mixture of cobalt oxyhydroxide with nickel oxyhydroxide as a catalyst to be held on an electroconductive carrier. CONSTITUTION:An oxidizer is caused to react with an aqueous solution of a cobalt salt and that of a nickel salt to coprecipitate cobalt oxyhydroxide and nickel oxyhydroxide. The coprecipitated product is mixed with powder of an electroconductive carrir to cause it to hold about 3-40wt% of the product. The powdery mixture, which can function as a catalyst, is molded as a plate together with a binder. The plate is integrally combined with a current collector to manufacure an oxygen electrode. The oxygen electrode includes the catalyst of low cost but high activity and has an excellent characteristic in the relationship between the single-electrode potential and current density. |
