abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formulaI(R 1 is H, lower alkyl, etc.; R 2 is H or halogen; R 3 and R 4 are H or with the carbon atoms to which they are linked may form an epoxy ring; R 5 is H, OH, etc.; R 6 is H or lower alkyl; R 7 is lower alkyl; however, R 2 , R 5 and R 6 are not H when R 1 is H or lower alkyl and R 3 and R 4 with the carbon atoms to which are they are linked represent an epoxy ring). n EXAMPLE: 4-Bromo-3,4-epoxy-2-methoxy-5-oxo-tetrahydropyran. n USE: A germicide and insecticide capable of exhibiting the activity against bacteria, molds and injurious insects. n PROCESS: A pyran derivative expressed by formula II is reacted with an epoxidizing agent, e.g. peracetic acid or pertrifluoroacetic acid, in the presence of a basic compound, e.g sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, in a solvent, e.g. ether or alcohol, at -30W+40°C for 2W6hr to give the compound expressed by formulaI(R 3 and R 4 with the carbon atoms to which they are linked form an epoxy ring; R 5 is H). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio |
