Preparation of styrene resin foam plate of large thickness |
abstract |
PURPOSE:To obtain a styrene resin foam plate of large thickness whose surface and inside have been uniformly and finely foamed and whose dimension is hardly affected by variation of the outside temperature, by employing specific blowing agents to obtain a foam plate of large thickness and heating further its surface to a given temperature to generate foams therein. CONSTITUTION:One kg of styrene resin is mixed with 0.3-1.5mol of trichlorofluoromethane and 1.0-0.3mol of butane dichlorodifluoromethane or its mixture and kneaded on heating before being extruded. During or immediately after extrusion, the surface of the resin is cooled in order to obtain a foam plate having a thickness of more than 10mm.. The temperature is once lowered to be less than the heat deformation temperature of the resin. Then, the resin is heated again from its surface so that the surface has a temperature 5-70 deg.C higher than the heat deformation temperature of the resin, in order to cause further foam-generation. Thus, the density of the surface approaches to the lower density of the inside, so that the plate becomes a uniform foamed product as a whole. |
