titleOfInvention | Ultrafine resin powder and its preparation |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain an ultrafine resin powder of a polyester, having a high polymerization degree, and suitable for a powder coating material, by polymerizing a specific polyester of low polymerization degree in the solid phase. n CONSTITUTION: A low-polymer copolyester having a polymerization degree of preferably 4W60, and a reduced viscosity of 0.1W0.4 without the fiber-forming ability, and consisting of preferably 60wt% ethylene terephthalate units in the repeating units is pulverized in a pulverizer, e.g. a ball mill, hammer mill or pneumatic pulverizer, into a powder having a particle size of 70μ or less to pass through a 200-mesh screen. The powder is then polymerized in the solid phase at a temperature preferably 5W100°C lower than the melting point of the polymer in vacuo or in a heated inert gaseous atmosphere to give an ultrafine resin powder having a maximum particle size ≤70μ, an average polymerization degree ≥60 and a reduced viscosity ≥0.4. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
