titleOfInvention Production of pyrogallol-1,3-dimethyl ether
abstract PURPOSE: The cleavage reaction of pyrogallol trimethyl ether is conducted in the presence of a sulfonic acid to produce pyrogallol-1,3-dimethyl ether, which is used as a synthetic intermediate of medicine, agricultural chemical, perfume or a polymerization inhibitor in high selectivity. n CONSTITUTION: Pyrogallol trimethyl ether is cleaved using a sulfonic acid such as methanesulfonic acid or benzenesulfonic acid at 50W100, preferably 60W90°C to produce pyrogallol-1,3-dimethyl ether. The amount of the sulfonic acid used is 0.5W30, preferably 1W2mol per mole of pyrogallol trimethyl ether. The methyl sulfonate formed through the reaction is separated from the reaction mixture and hydrolyzed to the sulfonic acid, which is used repeatedly. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
