titleOfInvention Battery with nonaqueous electrolyte
abstract PURPOSE:To improve the discharge capacity of a battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte, by restraining the swell of a positive electrode, which swell occurs upon discharge, and thus inhibiting the increase of the overall height of the battery through the addition of 1,2-diphenylethylene diamine to the nonaqueous electrolyte of a battery equipped with a negative lithium electrode. CONSTITUTION:To the electrolyte of a nonaqueous battery including a negative lithium electrode 8 and a positive electrode 2, there is added 1,2-diphenylethylene diamine. The electrolyte is prepared by adding 2-10pts.wt. of 1,2-diphenylethylene diamine to 100pts.wt. of a known electrolyte obtained, for example, by dissolving lithium perchlorate, lithium borofluoride or a like material in propylene carbonate, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, tetrahydrofuran, -butyrolactone, a mixture thereof. In the above constitution, it is possible to restrain the swell of the positive electrode, which employs as an active material a metal sulfide such as iron sulfide, metal oxide such as copper oxide, carbon fluoride or the like, upon discharge, resulting in the inhibition of increase of the overall height of the battery and improvement to the discharge capacity.
