abstract PURPOSE: To save energy consumption while maintaining the precision of the control of the average polymerization degree of the titled resin, and to improve its productivity, by depolymerizing a copolyester prepared under given conditions with an alcohol, etc. under specified conditions. n CONSTITUTION: A polymer with low polymerization degree having an average polymerization degree not more than 10 is subjected to polycondensation under reduced pressure at 200W300°C to give a copolyester having an intrinsic viscosity 0.3W 0.5, which is depolymerized in such a way that an average polymerization degree is controlled to a given value in a range of the average polymerization degree 10W40. The depolymerization is carried out in an alcohol having a boiling point not more than 200°C and/or an ester having one or more alcoholic hydroxyl group in a molecule in an amount satisfying the formula (A is a number of moles of an alcohol ingredient of the copolyester; B is a number of moles of an acid ingredient of the copolyester, C is a number of the alcohol, etc. used in the depolymerization) at a temperature not higher than the boiling point of the alcohol ,etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
