titleOfInvention Electro-optical lens
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an electro-optical lens which can electrically directly control the focal length of the lens itself by constituting the lens by a high polymer piezoelectric material. n CONSTITUTION: The electro-optical lens is constituted by electric curvature-changing films 5 made by forming polyvinylidene fluoride to bimorph structure, cutting this in the form of an isosceles triangle having a sharp vertix δ° on the spherical plane of the radius of curvature of the lens to be obtained and bonding (n) sheets of this around a flucrum 8 by means of an epoxy resin or the like. Annular electrodes 6, 7 are connected and bonded to the films 5 and voltage is applied thereto from a control signal generator 11. In addition, a low-viscous material 10 of light transmittable characteristic having a high refractive index higher than that of air is filled in the hermetic space formed by the films 5 and an elastic film 9 composed of a light-transmittable high polymer material bonded to its peripheral portion. If the voltage corresponding to the extent of movement of a light emitting element is applied as a control voltage to the annular electrodes of such electro-optical lens, the films 5 change the radii of their spherical faces and this make it possible to change the focal length. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
