titleOfInvention 9alpha-hydroxysteroid
abstract NEW MATERIAL:A 9α-hydroxy-3-oxopregna-4, 17(20)-diene-20-carboxylic acid methyl ester shown by the formula I. n USE: A synthetic intermediate for corticoid. For example, hydrocortisone acetate, predonisolone, etc. can be synthesized from a low-priced sterol as a starting material. n PROCESS: For example, a bacterium (e.g., belonging to the genus Rhodococcus, the genus R. equi ATCC21329) capable of introducing OH into 9α position is fermented using a compound shown by the formula II as a substrate to give a compound shown by the formula I. The fermentation is carried out by aerobic liquid cultivation. The compound shown by the formula II, for example, is obtained by fermenting Mycobacterium species NRRLB-8054 using various kinds of sterols as a substrate. A sterol-containing natural substance, e.g., dark oil obtained by cleaning fish oil and cuttlefish oil with an alkali, deodorized scrum of vegetable oil, etc. may be used as the raw material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
