abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a highly stereospecific (co)polymer which is uniform in particle diameter and requires no pelletization, by (co)polymerizing an α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising TiCl 3 prepared by a specified method and organic Al compound. n CONSTITUTION: TiCl 4 , an ether compound and an organic Al compound are dissolved at a temperature lower than 55°C in a mixed solvent consisting of (A) 80W 30vol% of a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or an alicyclic hydrocarbon and (B) 20W70vol% of a halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon. In the course of heating the resulting solution to 45W150°C, the solution is cooled temporarily to a temperature below 40°C, and at this temperature an ether compound and/or TiCl 4 are added. This temporary cooling is repeated at least twice thereby to precipitate TiCl 3 having a uniform particle diameter and an average diameter of 10W1,000μ. An α-olefin is (co)polymerized in the presence of the above-prepared TiCl 3 and an organic Al compond to produce a polymer. n EFFECT: The demineralization and washing steps can be omitted or simplified. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
