abstract NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of formula I [R is group formula II (R<1> is H, aryl, etc.; R<2> and R<3> are H, lower alkyl), etc.] or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:2-( alpha-Aminophenylacetylamino )-N-( 3,4,4a,5,6,7-hexahydro-3-dichloromethyl-5,6,8-trihydroxy-3-methyl-1-ox o-1H-benzopyran-4-yl)propanamide. USE:Useful as a medicine having a carcinosattic action and antimicrobial action. PROCESS:A compound of formula III or an acid addition salt thereof e.g. hydrochloride, is reacted with a compound of formula IV, a salt or reactive derivative at the carboxyl group thereof in an inert solvent to give the compound of formula I. The compound of formula III has an asymmetric center and is optionally selected form D-, L- and DL- forms.
