abstract | PURPOSE: To generate simply and easily the fragile crack of a test piece in the destruction tenacity appreciating test for steel materials without change of the quality in parts other than the part near a notch part, by using ion nitriding method to make the notch surface of the test piece fragile. n CONSTITUTION: Nitrogen ionized by glow discharge in nitrogen gas of a low pressure approximate to vacuum is caused to strike a sample (where parts other than an objective part are coated with the case of a soft steel plate and so on and only the part near the notch part are exposed) in a high speed to form a nitride on the sample surface, and this part is hardened. Though the ion pure nitriding method using only nitrogen gas or the ion soft nitriding method using mixture of nitrogen gas and methane gas may be adapted, the surface stiffness can be high for the latter method. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
