titleOfInvention Preparation of substituted quinone derivative
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance which is an intermediate for a substituted benzoquinone, e.g. vitamin K, coenzyme Q, etc., by coupling a 2,3-substituted-5- methyl-1,4-hydroquinone derivative with a halide, and introducing a substituent group into the 4-position. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (X 1 and X 2 are lower alkyls, lower alkoxyls, or together form a group of formula II; R 1 and R 2 are groups capable of protecting hydroxyl groups) is reacted with a halide of the formula R-X [R is alkyl, allyl or aralkyl or group of formula III (A and B are Hs or and B represent direct bond; n is an integer 0W11); X is halogen] in a nonaqueous solvent in the presence of a strong base to give a compound of formula IV. DMF, THF, n-hexane, etc. may be cited as the preferred nonaqueous solvent. An organolithium compound or an alkali metal alcoholate may be cited as the strong base. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
