abstract NEW MATERIAL:A new cembranolide diterpene of the formula (R is H, acetyl) (when R is H, the diterpene is named sarcophytol-B and sarcophytol-B diacetate, when R is acetyl). n USE: Antileukemia and intermediate of medicines and agricultural chemicals. As it is susceptible to oxidation by air, cautions should be taken on handling and storage. n PREPARATION: Sarcophyton glaucon living in coral reefs in Indian or Pacific Ocean is dehydrated until it loses the viscous property on the surface, cut into pieces, extracted with methanol or chloroform. The solvent is distilled off to give the crude extract.
