abstract | PURPOSE: A preventive for a dialytic patient against side effects, e.g., disorder of blood vessel of heart, weaking of the whole body, etc., comprising carnitine or its salt. n CONSTITUTION: A preventive comprising a dl-, d-, or l-derivative of carnitine shown by the formula or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts as an active ingredient. When a patient of renopathy, etc. is subjected to dialysis continuously, harmful actions such as disorder of blood vessel of heart, e.g, arrhythmia, myocardial infraction, etc., weakening of the whole body, giddiness, headache, etc. occur. But the administration of carmitine is capable of preventing and remedying these harmful actions. The preventive is prescribed orally or parenterally. The reason is uncertain, but the fact that carnitine or its salt reduces a concentration of fatty acid in the blood and has actions to promote the absorption of long-chain Acyl- CoA to mitochondria membtane and to improve the energy metabolism of cardiac muscle is considered to be related to the reason. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
