titleOfInvention Treatment of arsenic sulfide precipitate
abstract PURPOSE: To convert an arsenic sulfide precipitate into a dense solid substance easy to handle by covering the surface of the precipitate put in a container with a metallic iron-contg. substance after which the precipitate is melted and cooled. n CONSTITUTION: An arsenic sulfide precipitate is put in an open container, and after covering the surface of the precipitate with iron dust or a metallic iron-contg. substance, the whole container is heated to the m.p. of the precipitate or above to melt the precipitate. This melt is then converted into a dense solid substance by cooling to ordinary temp. When the precipitate is melted, part of it reacts with the covered iron to form a compound layer of iron sulfide and iron arsenide. This layer is dense and forms a lidlike composition in the container. Partially volatilized arsenic sulfide reacts with iron and is captured as compounds similar to said ones. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
