PURPOSE: A specific actinomyces is cultured to produce directly an acravinone which is used as an intermediate of adriamycin, a chemotherapeutic agent against cancers. n CONSTITUTION: A mutant (FERM-5081 or 5082) originated from Streptomyces galilaeus MA144-M 1 (FERM-2455) is aeorbically cultured in a usual medium for actinomyces at 20W40°C to produce an anthracyclinone of the formula (R is H, hydroxyl). The compound is novel, when R is hydroxyl. The compound of the formula corresponds to the agricon of adriamycin or daunomycin, which are widely used as a chemotherapeutic agent against cancers, and the side effects caused by these chemothrapeutic agent are reduced and the carcinostatic activity is increased by binding the compound of the formula. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
