titleOfInvention Production of 5-oxohexyl-dialkylxanthine
abstract PURPOSE: In the presence or absence of a mercuric salt, 5'-hexynyl-dialkyl-xanthine is treated with water under heating in the presence of an acid to produce the title compound with high purity inexpensively in high yield. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (when R 1 is 5-hexynyl, R 2 is alkyl; when R 1 is alkyl of 12 or more carbon atoms, R 2 is 5-hexynyl) is heated together with water in the presence of an acid at 60W100°C in the presence or absence of a mercuric, silver, cadmium or zinc salt for 1W20hr to produce a compound of formula II (when R 3 is 5-oxohexyl, R 4 is alkyl; when R 3 is alkyl of 2 or more carbon atoms, R 4 is 5-oxohexyl). When a strong acid such as sulfuric, hydrochloric, or trichloroacetic acid is used as the acid, the objective compound is given in a short time in high yield. The compound of formula I is novel and obtained by the reaction of 1,3-dialkylxanthine and 5-hexynyl halide. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
