titleOfInvention Production of 4-benzoyl-5-hydroxypyrazole
abstract PURPOSE: The intermolecular rearrangement between a phenyl benzoate and a 5-hydroxypyrazole is effected in an inert solvent in the presence of a catalyst to produce the titled compound used as a herbicide or its intermediate with industrial advantage. n CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a phenyl benzoate of formula I (X is halogen, nitro; Y is halogen, nitro, methylsulfonyl; Z is halogen, nitro; n is 1W5) and a 5-hydroxypyrazole of formula II (R is lower alkyl) is conducted in an inert solvent in the presence of a catalyst such as aluminum chloride to produce a 4- benzoyl-5-hydroxypyrazole of formula III or its salt. The phenolic compound formed along with the objective compound of formula III is separated and recycled to the reaction with a benzoic acid for the production of a phenyl benzoate of formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
