titleOfInvention Preparation of aqueous emulsion
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an aqueous emulsion useful as a sizing agent for paper, having good dispersion stability and excellent sizing property, and slightly foaming during sheeting, by emulsifying a rosin (derivative thereof) by use of a specified compound as an emulsifier. n CONSTITUTION: The titled emulsion is obtained, by adding, under normal or elevated pressure, (ii) 1W30pts.wt. of an emulsifier of the formula (wherein R is aryl or alkylaryl having 2W8 benzene rings; R 1 is ethylene or propylene; n is 5W40; M is H, monovalent metal or ammonium) and, if necessary (iii) 1W50wt% of a saponification value equivalent to the saporification value by using an organic or inorganic acid (e.g., NaOH), to (i) 100pts.wt. of a rosin (derivative thereof), followed by gradual addition of warm water, to form an O/N type emulsion, and applying a strong shearing force to the emulsion with heating by means of a high- pressure emulsifying vessel etc. An emulsifying agent (ii) is obtained by the addition polymerization of a corresponding arylphenol and ethylene oxide, etc., and exterification with maleic anhydride, followed by sulfonation with a sulfite. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
