abstract PURPOSE: A polynactin composition is administered to the mamma of domestic animals in nonmilking periods to prevent or treat the mammitis in domestic animals that cause adverse effects on milk production. n CONSTITUTION: At least one of compounds of formula I (R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are lower alkyl) such as polynactin composition consisting of dinactin, trinactin and tetranactin is administered to domestic animals in nonmilking periods, preferably milk cows in dry periods or virgin cows to prevent or treat the mammitis of domestic animals. The mammitis is said to be caused by Corynebacterium pyogenes, which is not resistant to the composition and so effectively controlled. The composition is injected or inserted through openings on the mamilla.
