titleOfInvention Beta-1,3-glucan, its preparation and use
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance having antitumor acitvity and low toxicity, and useful as a remedy for tumor, etc., and having β-1,3-glucopyranose units in the main chain and the side chains, by oxidizing the product of β-1,3-glucan-producing bacteria with periodic acid, etc., and reducing the oxidation product. n CONSTITUTION: β-1,3-Glucan obtained by culturing the strain of Pestalotia No.815 (FERM-P No.5147), etc., is oxidized with periodic acid or its water-soluble salt at a low temperature below 15°C for about 2W10 days. The oxidation product is separated from the reaction mixture, mixed with an aqueous medium, and reduced with a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride, etc., to obtain the objective polysaccharide composed of a main chain having β-1,3-glucopyranose units of formula I (Glc is glucopyranose residue) as recurring units, and side chains of formula II (n is 0W1) and/or formula III (R is group of formula IV). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
