abstract NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound shown by the formula I (R is hydroxyl or H; one of R 1 and R 2 is H, and the other is 1W6C alkyl) and its acid addition salt. n EXAMPLE: 1-N-( L-4-Amino-2-hydroxybutyryl )-6'( R )-C-methyl-3'-deoxykanamycin B. n USE: An antibacterial agent effective against a resistant bacterium, sensitive bacterium, etc. n PROCESS: An amino group of a 6'-C-alkyl-3'-deoxykanamycin B or 6'-C-alkyl-3', 4'-dideoxykanamycin B shown by the formula II or their derivative wherein 4 amino groups except the amino group in the 1st position, and, if necessary, hydroxyl groups, are at least partially protected by protecting groups is acylated by L-4- amino-2-hydroxybutyric acid.
