titleOfInvention Water-soluble cholesterol derivative
abstract NEW MATERIAL:7-Keto and 7-hydroxycholesterol organic dibasic acid half ester (salt) of formula I (R 1 is =0 or -OH; R 2 is 1W5C alkylene or phenylene). n USE: Cellular immunosuppressive agent and antiphlogistic agent having excellent immunosuppressive activity. n PROCESS: A 7-ketocholesterol organic dibasic acid half ester of formula I wherein R 1 is =0, is prepared by reacting 7-ketocholesterol (1mol) with a reactive derivative of the corresponding organic dibasic acid of formula II (e.g. succinic acid) (pref. 1W3mol) in the presence of a tertiary amine such as pyridine. The product can be converted to the 7-hydroxycholesterol organic dibasic acid half ester of formula I wherein R 1 is -OH, by reducing with pref. 1W10mol, based on 1mol of the above product, of a metal hydride complex such as sodium borohydride. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
