titleOfInvention Purification of xylylenediamine
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the highly pure xylylenediamine having high color stability, by the contact of xylylenediamine obtained by the catalytic hydrogenation of phthalonitrile, with a catalyst containing an iron oxide or iron and a chromium oxide, in the presence of water. n CONSTITUTION: Xylylenediamine is prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of phthalonitrile, and purified by the contact with a catalyst comprising an iron oxide or iron and a chromium oxide, in the presence of water. The catalyst is prepared by calcining the precipitated carbonates or hydroxides of iron and chromium, and may be carried on a carrier. A catalyst containing oxides of iron and chromium is excellent in durability compared with the one containing only iron. The amount of water added is suitably 0.5W20wt% based on xylylenediamine, and treatment conditions are 80W200°C, 1W30kg/cm 2 G of ressure and 30minW3hr. The reduction is preferably carried out after removal of the solvent from the reaction solution. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
