titleOfInvention Purification of crude ketone
abstract PURPOSE: To purify crude ketone economically in an industrial scale, by the distillation of crude ketone containing a small amount of aldehyde and pretreated with a solid alkali containing oxides and/or hydroxides of an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal and SiO 2 at specific ratios. n CONSTITUTION: A crude ketone containing a small amount of aldehyde, esp. 50W 1,000ppm (weight) aliphatic aldehyde, and pref. 0.5W15wt% of water (e.g. a crude acetone obtained by distillation of cumene hydroperoxide after the acid decomposition) is treated with a solid alkali containing oxides and/or hydroxides of an alkali metal M 1 (esp. Na) and an alkaline earth metal M 2 (esp. Ca) and SiO 2 at molar ratios M 2 /M 1 =1.0W15 and Si/M 1 =0.25W5, and then distilled by simple distillation to give the ketone fraction substantially free of aldehyde. There is no dissolution of the alkali and no change in the shape of the solid alkali for a long time in the purification process. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
