| abstract | PURPOSE: The titled composition useful for an electronic calculator and a wrist- watch, capable of exhibiting a nematic liquid crystal phase in a wide temperature range near at room temperatures, making the severe dynamic drive possible, obtained by blending a specific phenylcyclohexane-based compound with a pyrimidine -based compound. n CONSTITUTION: (A) Preferably 30W95wt% of one or more low-viscosity chemically stable phenylcyclohexane-based compounds shown by the formula I (R 1 is 3W7C straight-chain alkyl) is blended with (B) preferably 5W45wt% of one or more pyrimidine-based compounds shown by the formula II (R 2 is 4W8C straight-chain alkyl or straight-chain alkoxy) to give the desired composition. Preferably 25wt% or less amount of a pyrimidine-based compound shown by the formula III (R 3 is n- C 4 H 9 ) having big positive dielectric anisotropy and a high upper limit of the liquid crystal temperature of a single compound is added to the composition, if necessary. n EFFECT: A dynamic drive of 3V (or 2.8V) at 1/3 bias and 1/3 duty is possible. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
