abstract | PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent lithium battery which has long-period stability by employing a positive electrode prepared from either a ternary system consisting of lithium iodide, silver iodide and silver oxyacid, or a quaternary system consisting of lithium iodide, silver iodide, silver oxide and a specific oxide. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 3 in this case is prepared from lightium, and an electrolyte 4 is a solution of a Lewis salt like lithium perchlorate dissolved in an organic solvent like propylene carbonate. A positive electrode 5 is made of either a ternary system consisting of 0.01-60mol% lithium iodide, 0.5-99.9mol% silver iodide and 0.01-94.9mol% of a silver oxyacid such as Ag3PO4 or Ag4P2O7, or a quaternary system consisting of 0.01-60mol% lithium iodide, 0.5-99.9mol% silver iodide, 0-49.5mol% silver oxide and up to 49.5mol% of a specific oxide such as P2O5 or SiO2. The mixture is melted and after that made into a powder, to which 0.5-99.9molwt% of acetylene black (for example) is added. Through the means mentioned above, an excellent battery which has a high voltage as well as long- period stability can be obtained. |
