titleOfInvention Preparation of diphenylamine
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound of high purity useful as an intermediate for a coloring matter of pressure-sensitive paper, by the reaction of an acylaminophenol compound with an inexpensive di- or trichlorobenzene in the presence of an acid binding agent and a Cu catalyst, followed by the hydrolysis. n CONSTITUTION: An acylaminophenol compound of formula I (R 1 is methyl or ethyl) is reacted with a di- or trichlorobenzene of formula II (n is 1 or 2) at 150W 250°C for 24W40hr in the presence of an acid binding agent, e.g. K 2 CO 3 or Na 2 CO 3 , and a Cu catalyst, e.g. Cu powder or cupric oxide, to give diphenylamine or formula III, which is then hydrolyzed to give the titled compound of formula IV. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
