titleOfInvention Novel basic substance and its preparation
abstract NEW MATERIAL:Basic substances of formula I (R is H, 1W17C alkyl, aryl, benzyl, pyridyl, nitro). n EXAMPLE: 1-(m-Styryl)methylimidazole. n USE: Monomers for homo- or copolymer: they can produce functional high polymers such as adsorbent or ion-exchange resin. n PREPARATION: The reaction of a halogenomethylstyrene of formula II (X is halogen) such as m-chloromethylstyrene with a substituted imidazole of formula III is conducted in an inert solvent at -50W60°C, preferably in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor, to produce the compound of formula I. The use of at least one selected from inorganic alkaline compounds, organic basic compounds, metals and metal halides on the reaction oftentimes shortens the reaction time and increases the yield. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
