titleOfInvention Preparation of alkali salt of iminodiacetic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a compound having chelating actions, etc. in high selectivity by hydrolyzing an alkali salt of N-cyanomethylaminoacetic acid in the presence of a caustic alakli under specific conditions. n CONSTITUTION: A mixed aqueous solution of an alkali salt of N-cyanomethylaminoacetic acid and an caustic alkali (e.g., Na 2 CO 3 , etc.) is previously kept at a temperature <60°C for at least 5min and heated to a temperature from 60°C to the boiling point, to give the titled compound. The concentration of the aqueous solution of alkali salt of N-cyanomethylaminoacetic acid is usually about 5W50wt% preferably. n EFFECT: When the mixed aqueous solution is previously kept at ≥60°C, selectivity for sodium iminodiacetate is lowered abruptly and selectivity for sodium nitriloacetate is raised. When it is previously kept at <60°C, sodium iminodiacetate is obtained in a selectivity 90wt%. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
