titleOfInvention Novel preparation of 4-bustituted beta-ionone derivative by oxidizing reacting of beta-ionone enol ester with oxygen
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful for improving the flavor of a food and drink, table luxuries, tobacco, etc. and the frangrance of a cosmetic, industrially, readily, safely and selectively, by oxidizing a β-ionone enol ester with oxygen in a nonpolar solvent. n CONSTITUTION: A β-ionone enol ester of formula (7) is oxidized with oxygen in a nonpolar solvent, e.g. henzene, to form a mixture of β-ionones expressed by formulas (2), (3), (8) and (5). A compound of formula (2) in which X is O in the titled compound of formula I (X is O, OH or alkoxyl) is separated and extracted from the reaction product. The yield of the compound of formula (2) is increased by the addition of a dehydrating substance, e.g. magnesium sulfate or calcium chloride, and the compound of formula (3) and a 4-alkoxy-β-ionone in the titled compound are obtained selectively by changing the reaction conditions. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
