abstract | PURPOSE: A part of polymer chips taken out of the continuous solid polymerization tank is continuously melted and its viscosity is measured, then the vacuum in the polymerizer is controlled according to the viscosity, thus producing the chip product with less fluctuation in polymerization degree. n CONSTITUTION: In the solid-phase polymerization tank 1, chips reaching a predetermined polymerization degree are always trapped in the hopper 14 and pneumatically conveyed through pipe 18 with a rotary valve 19 under cooling with a nitrogen gas 15. A very small part of the chips in the hopper 14 is continuously sent through by-pass 21 to the melting extruder 20 and the viscosity of the melted polymer is detected with the detector 23 mounted to pipe 22. The detected values are compared with the predetermined one in the controller 29 to calculate the difference. The signals from the controller 29 to the vacuum controller 28 to change the set value of vacuum degree one corresponding to the measured viscosity and to control the valve 6, thus keeping the inside of the polymerizer to the predetermined vacuum. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
