Method and device for electrolytic production of chlorine dioxide |
abstract |
PURPOSE: To produce chlorine dioxide of a fixed concn. continuously with good current efficiency by circulating a chlorous acid soln. of alkali metal between the anode chamber of a diaphragm electrolytic cell and a stripping cell in performing electrolysis. n CONSTITUTION: A chlorous acid soln. of alkali metal enters the bottom part of a supply cell 9 and flows down in an overflow pipe 10. On the way of a supply pipe 12 from a stripping cell 11 to a diaphragm electrolytic cell 1, it is mixed with the anolyte having been controlled of pH and is introduced into an anode chamber 6. After it is electrolyzed there, it passes through a return pipe 14 and returns into the cell 11. Part of the anolyte enters an auxiliary stripping cell 16 from an overflow pipe 15, after which it is discharged to the outside of the system. The air introduced into the cell 16 expells dissolved chlorine dioxide, thence it enters the cell 11 and expells the chlorine dioxde in the anolyte. After this is introduced into the cell 9, it is taken out through a discharge pipe 21 and is used. The catholyte of a circulating cell 22 is conducted to the cathode chamber 7 of the cell 1 where it is electrolyzed thence it returns into the cell 22. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
