titleOfInvention Production of 2- 1-hydroxy-3-butenyl -5-methylfuran
abstract PURPOSE: Tetrahydrofurane is used as a reaction medium and magnesium is placed in it, then 5-methylfurfural and allyl chloride are added to the medium simultaneoulsy, the product is hydrolyzed to advantageously produce the titled compound used as an intermediate of agricultural chemicals and others. n CONSTITUTION: After the reaction between 5-methylfurfural, magnesium, and allyl chloride, the product is hydrolyzed to produce the titled compound used as an intermediate of agricultural chemicals and medicines wherein tetrahydrofuran is used as a reaction solvent and simultaneous action of 5-methylfurfural and allyl chloride on magnesium in tetrahydrofuran is conducted to prevent the precipitation of crystals and produce the titled compound in high yield. Further, larger difference in temperature from the coolant is permitted to enable usual agitation of the reaction mixture, facilitate the transport of the reaction mixture and lower the load of heat removal. Further, the reaction time is shortened and the amount of aluminum chloride used is reduced, resulting in industrial advantage. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
