titleOfInvention Microwave heating continous denitrification apparatus
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare uranium trioxide for the preparation of nuclear fuel, continuously, by irradiating crystals precipitated and separated from the solution of uranyl nitrate, etc. with microwave, thereby converting to a dried cake of the denitrified product. n CONSTITUTION: A solution 1 of uranyl nitrate and/or plutonium nitrate is introduced into the crystallizer 4, in which water and nitric acid are removed from the solution by an evacuating apparatus 5 to precipitate slurry crystal. The crystal slurry is separated into the solid and the liquid by the centrifugal separator 9, and the liquid is recycled to the crystallizer 4 through the receptor 30. The crystal is sent to the microwave heating furnace 14 by the belt conveyor 13 and denitrified by heating in a heating zone furnished with a microwave oscillator 26 and a waveguide 27 to obtain dried cake 22 of uranium trioxide and/or plutonium dioxide. The cake is scraped from the conveyor 13 with the scraper 15. The influence of the change in the composition of the raw material sulution to the quality of the produced powder can be minimized by this process. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
