abstract PURPOSE: To remove NOx at a high rate of removal by treating an NOx-contg. gas with reducing-agent-contg. treating liquid then treating the same continuously with an aqueous alkali soln., oxidizer-contg. liquid and an aqeuous alkali soln. n CONSTITUTION: The waste combustion gas contg. NOx is treated with the liquid contg. 0.01% a reducing agent such as sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfite, sodium thiosulfate or the like, whereby NOx is redued to NO and is reacted with the coexisting NO 2 , to form N 2 O 3 . The waste gas contg. much of this N 2 O 3 is readily absorbed away by the treatment with an aqueous alkali soln. However, with the waste gas of a relatively high content of NO 2 , it is once subjected to reduction treatment, after which it is absorbed with the aqueous alkali soln. When NO is more than NO 2 , the gas is further treated with liquid contg. NaClO 2 as an oxidizer to oxidize NO to NO 2 and allow it to react with NO to N 2 O 3 , after which again it is absorbed away with an aqueous alkali soln., whereby the rate of removal of NOx is improved. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
