titleOfInvention | Production of carbon monoxide |
abstract | PURPOSE: A mixture of methanol and methyl formate is brought into contact with a catalyst containing an alkali metal compound of decompose only methyl formate under specific conditions, thus producing methanol and high-purity carbon monoxide. n CONSTITUTION: A catalyst is prepared by supporting an alkali metal compound other than alkali alcoholate on a carrier such as kieselguhr or silica gel at a ratio of 0.05W3 milliatoms, as an alkali metal atom, to 1g of the carrier. The alkali metal compound is, e.g., potassium hydroxide or sodium sulfate. The catalyst is placed in the reactor and a (10W70):(90W30)(wt%) mixture of methyl formate and methanol is continuously fed a a liquid space velocity of 10W100hr -1 or at a gas-space velocity of 5,000W50,000hr -1 under conditions of 200W500°C and atmospheric pressure to 350atm. Thus, the catalytic pyrolysis of only methyl formate is selectively effected to obtain methanol and high-purity carbon monoxide. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio |
