titleOfInvention Cundurango extract, its preparation, and antitumor agent comprising it
abstract NEW MATERIAL:A cundurango extract soluble in lower alcohols and chlorinated hydrocarbon except CCl 4 and insoluble in CCl 4 or aromatic hydrocarbons. Appearance: brown to light brown powder. Taste: bitterness. Offensive. It produces a smell of cinnamic acid when it is heated with caustic soda solution. Color reaction: Keller-Kiliani reaction, positive (green brown); Liebermann-Burchard reaction, positive (blue green). n USE: An antitumor agent. n PROCESS: A lower alcohol (e.g., methanol, ethanol, etc.) soluble part of Marsdenia cundurango Reichenbach fil, preferably its bark is extracted with a chlorinated hydrocarbon, e.g., chloroform, dichloromethane, etc., excluding CCl 4 . The extract is extracted with CCl 4 or an aromatic hydrocarbon and its soluble part is removed, to give the titled extract. The previous extraction of cundurango with an aliphatic ketone, ether, etc. makes the operation easy. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
