abstract |
PURPOSE: p-Carboxybenzaldehyde oxime, which is readily available, is subjected to simultaneous aminomethylation and reduction under specific conditions to give readily and safely high-purity titled compound which is used as a starting material for high-molecular material and medicine. n CONSTITUTION: p-Carboxybenzaldehyde oxime or its alkyl ester is subjected to simultaneous aminomethylation of the oxime and reduction of the benzene ring in the presence of at least one selected from ammonia, alkali metal hydroxide and alcoholate and a catalyst of Ni or Ru to produce 4-aminomethylcyclohexane-1- carboxylic acid. Raney nickel is preferred as the nickel catalyst. The crude by- product in the production of dimethyl terephthalate can be employed directly with no purification.
