titleOfInvention Modified block copolymer composition and its preparation
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a composition useful as an adhesive having improved mechanical characteristics, oil resistance, etc. and low odor-developing and foaming tendency, by adding an unsaturated decarboxylic acid, etc. to a block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene compound in the presence of a metallic compound. n CONSTITUTION: (A) 100pts.wt. of a block copolymer composed of 5W97wt% of a vinyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene compound, pref. a styrene-butadiene block copolymer is mixed with (B) 0.05W10pts.wt. of one or more compounds selected from univalent, bivalent or trivalent metallic compounds. Simultaneous to or after the addition of the component (B), (C) 0.05W20pts.wt. of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or its derivative (pref. maleic acid, etc.) is added to the mixture. If necessary, 0W5pts.wt. of an antigelling agent (e.g. a phenolic compound) is added to the composition before, simultaneous to, or after the addition of the (C) component. The mixture is molten and kneaded at ≥120°C to effect the addition reaction of the component (C) to the component (A) and form an ionically crosslinked product.
